If you are looking for a creative DIY Mother's Day gift, papier-mâché is also a very fun and easy option. All you need is newspaper, wallpaper glue and a mould for what you want to make.

Paper-mâché dish

Making a bowl out of papier-mâché is not difficult at all.Supplies:

  • Newsprint
  • Wallpaper glue
  • Bowl / plastic bowl or a balloon
  • Oil or Vaseline

First, look for a mould for your bowl. You can use a bowl made of plastic that you already have. Instead of a plastic bowl, you can also use a balloon, half of which you glue on. Also useful: grease the balloon or bowl with oil or vaseline to make it easier to remove it from your artwork without it sticking.

  1. You cover the mould with plenty of pieces of papier-mâché. Cover the mould with up to three layers. Then you let the bowl dry, which takes between 1 and 2 days depending on the weather.
  2. When the dish is completely dry, you can decide whether it is thick enough for you. If not, reapply up to three layers.
  3. When the dish is completely dry, you can paint it or decorate it in another way. What you can also do is use coloured paper, which will give the dish an instant colour.

Remember to put a plastic pot in the pot if you really want to grow a plant in it, as the material cannot withstand water.
